Royal FAIL

I thought I'd try my hand at a king and queen. Aside from the fact that I went way too young, I also managed to completely (but unintentionally) rip off Playmobil figurines. Ha!

Princess Practice

I think I'm sticking with my original princess design for now. I've got to practice drawing more poses and actions and really work to develop her character. Here's a start:

Definitely need some practice. I'm realizing it's tricky to keep the proportions consistent. It's important because it doesn't seem to take much to change the age of my little princess:

Also, the thought occurred to me that it could be interesting if the princess had a prosthetic arm. Maybe it's never really clear if it's a prosthetic replacing a missing arm or just some sort of glove, but it could be a cool way to add some sci-fi character. Also, if it is a prosthetic, then I get to gracefully include a highly capable princess with disabilities.

Princess Fashion Faux Pas

So I thought I'd try my hand at some princess dress design. Shakin' my head. I figured it'd be a way to do something futuristic and different from the "ordinary" princess, but I've come to think that ordinary is what I want in the dress. Or at the very least simple. Anything I was trying was becoming too intricate and lacked the clean simplicity of a basic princess dress. Part of the concept here is to blend familiar elements like princess and truck. It's gotta read pretty quick as princess. Maybe I'll do something cool where it glows on command when she needs it to or has some other hidden, futuristic feature, but otherwise looks normal. Anyway, here are the failed dress attempts:

Power Plant as Friend and Helper

So, blogging hasn't managed to keep me on task, obviously, but I'm back on my project (for now).

I did a little more exploring of my futuristic construction equipment. I realized that a fun futuristic approach would be to have each person have their own power source instead of relying on centralized power sources like we do now. My "robot butler" ball would be that power source. Everyone would have their own little power generating robot ball and they'd use it to power whatever they were currently using. It's R2-D2 meets dæmons from His Dark Materials meets Iron Man's Arc Reactor.

Here are the construction equipment sketches featuring the robot power ball:
